Accommodation & Grounds

Brathay Hall offers double, twin, and single en-suite rooms across lodges and cottages on a room-only basis. Superior rooms in Scafell Lodge include a fridge and views over the parkland toward Windermere lake. The estate grounds provide a garden, terrace, and picnic areas for guests to use.

Breakfast is available as a pre-ordered cold continental option or a full English fry-up for an extra charge. The property has a shared lounge with a TV area and a business centre for corporate guests. A drying room for wet clothing is accessible after outdoor activities.

Business & Team-Building

Brathay Hall operates primarily as a residential training centre for Brathay Trust, offering low-wire balancing challenges and high-wire thrills like the pamper pole. Meeting and banquet facilities are available on site for corporate groups. The estate also hosts yoga retreats and special-interest courses throughout the year.

Pet-Friendly Policy

Dog-friendly rooms are available in select lodges and cottages with a small surcharge applied per stay. The grounds include fields and walking paths directly from the accommodation for exercising pets. A dog goodie bag is provided in pet-friendly rooms upon arrival.

Location & Accessibility

The property lies one mile from Ambleside town centre, with shops, restaurants, and traditional pubs within walking distance. Lake Windermere is accessible via a short footpath from the estate, and the hills around Brathay Hall are open for walking. Free parking is available on site, and wheelchair-accessible rooms with grab rails are offered.

“This spot strikes me as a unique hybrid-part residential training center, part hotel-nestled near both Ambleside and the Lake District's wild beauty. I see the location working well for team-building retreats, offering a mix of focused activity and natural escape. Dog-friendly rooms and free parking add practical advantages to a stay, rounding out its appeal.”

reception staff offered a great welcome and provided helpful information. I stayed on the top floor and watched the sunrise with a beautiful view of the lake. a fridge in the room was useful and lounge and coffee facilities were appreciated.
the shower was small, and i could hear other guests, which wasn't ideal.
